I came across this article about a lobby against Mattel to start mass-producing a hairless Barbie targeted to cancer-diagnosed kids.
The Power of Social media has kicked in since a petition has started on Facebook.

Avez-vous entendu parler de Barbie sans cheveux?
Cette action est nee de l'initiative de 2 meres dont les petites filles sont atteintes du Cancer. Elles reclament du fabricant Mattel, une version sans cheveux de la fameuse poupee!
L'affaire a ete reprise dans les medias et a creer un vaste engouement dans les medias sociaux.

Preview of what Kili could feel like/ Un apercu de ce a quoi le Kili peut ressembler...

Well I quit my jobs few weeks back and took a break in between, from my job that I am starting in a week.
Mission: Bali
Sub-Mission: going to climb/hike Mount Agung (3,600m)

I have indeed to train as much as I can my stamina and my breath to get in perfect shape for October.

Mount Agung is a volcano, still quite active as the last eruption was in 1963. This eruption killed numerous persons, since Balinese, very keen on ceremonies, were at the time out celebrating one of their gods (they are hindouists) when the lava bursts out of furor from the heart of the volcano. (hoping that 2011 would not be another year where another huge eruption would take place...)

It's the steepest mountain on the island of Bali and my "over-achiever" nature was starting to itch, that's why I decided to give it a try.

Plan was to leave at 1.00 am with a frontal lamp.
My guide (who does not speak a word of english) and I started to climb at 1,200m. The obejctive was to reach the summit for the sunrise 5 hours later....
It was probably the most extreme hike of my life under a thin monsoon rain, strong thunder, in a muddy earth and climbing the mountain without any trail. However despite the cold and the roughness of the pitch black environment, this hike was breathtaking (no no I am not playing on words).
We were bent like monkeys to grab any stones we could have a grip upon:)

Oh well, it was really worth seeing the sunrise well above the clouds. Pure Bliss!
Lesson learnt: the hike back was probably even more difficult than the hike up since the earth was so mushy and soft, I kept on sliding (and falling) for 4 hours...

J'ai demissionné il y a quelques semaines afin d embrasser un nouveau défi pro mais en attendant la reprise la semaine prochaine j ai pris un break à Bali!
Sous-mission: escalader le Mont Agung à 3600m.

Une bonne pratique pour le Kili car j ai gravi 2400m de denivelé en l espace de 5 heures (euf euf, on respire moins bien là haut!)
Le Mont Agung est un volcan encore actif puisque la dernière éruption a  eu lieu en 1963 et a fait de nombreuses victimes car les Balinais, de nature très cérémonieuse, étaient très nombreux dehors à célébrer une de leurs divinités quand la lave s est mise à dévaler les pentes.

Nous avons donc commencé une vraie randonnée dans les règles de l art (en espérant ne pas inscrire 2011 comme l année d une autre vive éruption!) avec un départ à 1 h du matin à la lampe frontale dans la forêt humide et tropicale puis dans un désert de cailloux!
Le but était d assister au magnifique lever de soleil au-dessus des nuages!
Et bien comme peuvent en attester les photos ci-dessus, le jeu en a valu la chandelle!

Par contre grande leçon d apprise: la descente est bien plus complexe que la montée à mes yeux!
4 heures de dérapés parallèles contrôlés (parfois moins vu mes chutes dans une terre rendue très meuble par les pluies de la mousson et l orage matinal...)

Je suis toute impatiente de vous raconter mon escalade du Kili du coup...mais patience...
